The author
Jimenez Julien, the person behind BookClubRoster
I build and maintain BookClubRoster, I answer the support email, and I sit in on more Thursday night reading groups than any product manager reasonably should.
Experience and expertise
- Twelve years building scheduling, membership and reporting software for small organizations in the United States and Europe.
- Field research with 60 book clubs and 14 public library reading programs between 2021 and 2026, including attendance audits before and after adopting a ballot.
- Direct work with adult programs coordinators on grant reporting formats used for state library funding.
- Publication director for MLJ, SASU, the company that publishes BookClubRoster.
How this product is built and maintained
BookClubRoster ships small changes weekly and never on a Thursday, because Thursday is the busiest meeting night in the United States and no host should discover a new interface an hour before her group arrives. Every feature starts as a written note from a host, and we do not build anything that has been asked for only once.
Editorial standards on this site are the same as the product standards. Numbers on the home page come from aggregated account data or from hosts' own before and after logs, and they are restated when the underlying figure moves. Testimonials are published with the name, role, business and city of the person who gave them, with their written permission. Nothing on this site is invented to fill a section, and any claim I cannot support gets cut rather than softened.
Published articles
Everything below was written for The Reading Room Ledger, the magazine attached to this site, and each report answers a question a host or a program coordinator put to me directly.

- Should our group meet in a library room, a bookstore back room or somebody living room?
- What are the rules on showing a movie adaptation at our library book club meeting?
- Why does attendance collapse in the fourth month and how do other hosts fix it?
- How does a library summer reading program actually get funded and reported each year?
- What should I actually budget per member per year to keep a book club running?
- What do I need to check before I invite an author to speak at our club meeting?
- Are banned book challenges changing what our reading group can safely put on the list?
- What really happens when a book club votes on the next title instead of the host choosing?
